Why We Stand Up for the Reefs

Our work combines scientific marine education with practical protection of coral ecosystems. We show how every individual can contribute to the health of the oceans.

Knowledge Drives Action We prepare current research on coral bleaching, microplastics, and biodiversity in a way that is understandable and usable in everyday life.

Respect for the Habitat Every recommendation and every piece of content follows the question: What benefits the reef in the long term? Avoiding greenwashing and empty promises is a given for us.

Together for the Reef Whether dive tourism, coastal protection, or sustainable consumption – we show concrete ways to protect marine nature without sacrificing experiences.

Our Mission for the Oceans

Who We Are – and What We Stand For

Understanding and Preserving Marine Nature

Science-Based Environmental Education

We are a team of marine biologists, educators, and divers who make complex ecosystems like coral reefs understandable. Our focus is on real-world connections – without oversimplified promises.

“Only those who truly know the reefs can protect them in the long term.”

Who We Work For

Schools, Associations, and Nature-Interested Travelers

Our content is aimed at anyone who wants to look beyond the horizon of dive tourism. We offer excursions, workshops, and digital learning modules for adults and young people aged 14 and up.

“The ocean doesn’t start at the beach – it starts in our everyday lives.”

Our Tone: Clear, Direct, Without Embellishment

No Advertising, No Miracle Solutions

We communicate factually and honestly about the threat to reefs from warming, acidification, and plastic waste. At the same time, we show concrete options for action – locally and globally.

“Sustainability doesn’t mean perfection, but conscious decisions.”

Our Team

Behind barrierreefcorals.com is a small circle of marine biologists and environmental educators who contribute their knowledge from research and practice.

Marine Biologist & Expedition Leader

Emil Schuh

Emil has researched coral ecology in the Indo-Pacific for over ten years. He leads our field projects for the reintroduction of Acropora species and knows the reefs from Indonesia to Fiji from his own diving experience.

Environmental Educator & Editor

Jessica Kaufmann

Jessica develops educational materials on marine ecosystems for schools and NGOs. She holds a Master's degree in environmental education and writes our articles on sustainable management of coastal habitats.

Project Coordinator & Dive Guide

Lukas Berger

Lukas organizes citizen science dives in the Mediterranean and accompanies groups in surveying Posidonia meadows. He knows the logistics behind every reef protection mission.

Data Analyst & GIS Specialist

Mira Novak

Mira evaluates satellite data on sea surface temperature and creates maps of coral bleaching. Her analyses are directly incorporated into our monthly status reports.
