To avoid misunderstandings, we clarify key terms and framework conditions of our content here.
Our educational approach conveys fact-based knowledge about marine ecosystems without pressure to act or moralizing appeals. We show concrete connections between human actions and reef health, but leave the evaluation to the readers.
We refer exclusively to tropical and subtropical stony coral reefs (hermatypic corals) in their natural environment. Artificial reefs, aquarium keeping, or coral farming are not the subject of our editorial content.
We rely on peer-reviewed studies, reports from marine research institutes (e.g., AIMS, NOAA), and publications from the IUCN. We explicitly label our own observations as such. No statement is based on anecdotal individual cases.
When we speak of threats to reefs, we mean demonstrable, anthropogenic or natural stress factors with measurable impacts on reef health. Hypothetical scenarios or unsubstantiated risks are identified as such.
We present controversial findings side by side and name the respective study situation. We avoid one-sided weighting or concealing differing positions. This gives readers a basis for their own assessment.
